‘Save’ The World By Sending An E-mail Into The Future

1 01 2008

Does it happen to you that you frequently forget about your friends’ birthdays, or simply forget about important dates? One of the way, if you use such things, is to set a reminder to your calendar event. If you do not run such thing than this may be pretty interesting for you. With FutureMe.org, you can send an e-mail today, but it shall be delivered on the day specified. The feature lets you to send an e-mail to your friends as well, but you have to register to do that. FutureMe.org is a fun way of how to send a letter even to yourself with the time span of a month, a year? It’s all your call, and when it comes then to you, you may just realize how were the things with you back then. Or simply let the future generations know about something…perhaps.

FutureMe.org is ‘based on the principle that memories are less accurate than emails.’

Personally, I could imagine using this feature to help create an illusion at work that I am hard working on stuff while sipping my orange juice on the beach, muahaha. It’s up to your imagination and curiosity.

I wish somebody /anybody/ came up with PastMe tool that would enable us to warn our ancestors…

Take A Little Walk On Moon

I am pretty sure that most of you came across the term- Google Earth- which is a powerful freeware tool that combines the power of Google Search with satellite imagery, maps, terrain and 3D buildings to put the world’s geographic information at your fingertips. This time it is not the Earth that is at the center of their focus, but Moon. Together with NASA Ames Research Center, Google managed to put together collection of lunar maps and charts and named it Google Moon. So far it is limited to the story of the Apollo missions, but that is expected soon to expend as well.

Its pretty good deal despite the fact that it is far from the Google Earth has achieved so far, but am sure that this has future as well. However, the only drawback I could see is that you cannot open Google Moon in your already existing Google Earth module, which requires little extra work, but it functions fully online. Other than that, its fun way of how to expand your knowledge about the Moon and enjoyably spend your free afternoon on Internet.

If you get bored quickly, I suggest you checking out the new feature of Google Earth, that is Exploring The Sky. Check out this little video to understand.

“Will You Be The Brain Behind The Next Great Web Innovation?”

1 01 2008

“Will you be the brain behind the next great Web innovation? Do you have the drive to take your Firefox Add-on idea to the masses? Are you ready to affect everyday life for millions of people around the world?”

These are the words that welcome you on Extend Firefox 2 Contest Official Web. Despite the fact that you just missed the deadline for submission (December 31st, 2007), it is worth looking at, because next year it just might be you who will be the winner of this contest. Winners of this contest will be announced on or about January 15th, 2008.

What was this contest all about? Basically, if you entered you were supposed to ‘Extend Firefox’ to encourage development and innovation in Web experience through add-ons to Firefox 2. If you have something in mind, keep it for next year contest, or try to submit it apart from the contest, but no valuable prices shall wait for you then, until you get lucky and your project gets chosen.

In the meantime, while we wait for the winner of this contest, I suggest you checking out Mozzila Labs Experiments .

Personas for Firefox

My favorite is Firefox Personas which are lightweight add-on themes for your Firefox which do not require any software update or need to discover, select, download or install a separate bit of software or code, while still using dynamic menus. You can add, remove, update or simply change your current theme instantly.

And why was this all necessary? Here are the answers from Mozilla Labs:

  • themes today are too hard to find, install and use
  • graphic designers should be able to style the browser without having to code
  • browsers can be more than just desktop software, they can include online components
  • people just want their computer to be a little more fun and personal

…and I just cannot agree more.

Firefox Re-Defined

The image “http://img368.imageshack.us/img368/4376/firefox3fz6.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.

So here is my confession: Yes, I hate Internet Explorer /not too cool with Opera and others either/ but I love Firefox. The reasons are pretty obvious. Whether it is its security or personalization, it makes my browser experience richer than any other browser ever could.

Nevertheless, Mozilla labs have introduced new Beta testing version of Firefox 3 which should exceed our expectations and overcome the previous versions. Over the years, I have managed to tweak-out my Firefox so vastly, that surfing the internet is no longer pain in the ass for me. Frankly, my browser does it all for me. Whether it is doing my bank account transfers, saving information, remembering all the login information /which comes in very handy since I own multiple internet identities/.

For those who cannot wait until the official final release, here is the link to Beta testing version of Firefox 3. What is new with this version? About anything- its more secure, easier to use, higher performance, and my favorite- more personal. For more info follow here. Enjoy! and let us know your feedback because that is the reason why this version was released.
